CSV – EmEditor (Text Editor) https://www.emeditor.com Best Text Editor, Code Editor, CSV Editor, Large File Viewer for Windows (Free versions available) Sat, 05 Aug 2017 08:52:06 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.5.5 17.1.0 beta 2 — Please optional allow CSV column header starting with ZERO https://www.emeditor.com/forums/topic/17-1-0-beta-2-please-optional-allow-csv-column-header-starting-with-zero/ Sat, 05 Aug 2017 08:52:06 +0000 https://www.emeditor.com/forums/topic/17-1-0-beta-2-please-optional-allow-csv-column-header-starting-with-zero/ It would be nice if we could have a checkbox in the settings
that allows the CSV column header numbering starting with an offset of ZERO 0.

Associate a CSV type with a configuration? https://www.emeditor.com/forums/topic/associate-a-csv-type-with-a-configuration/ Fri, 22 Apr 2016 11:23:24 +0000 https://www.emeditor.com/forums/topic/associate-a-csv-type-with-a-configuration/ I would like to associate a CSV type with an EmEditor configuration, is this possible? I cannot seem to find out how at least. :-(

In a little more detail, what I want is the following:

Always when I open a file with a certain file extension, I want it to be opened in a certain EmEditor configuration (which is of course already possible with the normal configuration associations), but I also want this configuration to always enable a certain CSV mode immediately, and it is this last thing that I cannot seem to figure out how to do. :-(

Is it possible?

Hide / collapse column (in CSV / Cell Selection mode) https://www.emeditor.com/forums/topic/hide-collapse-column-in-csv-cell-selection-mode/ Fri, 22 Apr 2016 10:46:03 +0000 https://www.emeditor.com/forums/topic/hide-collapse-column-in-csv-cell-selection-mode/ I really like the enhanced CSV and Cell Selection mode features in EmEditor lately, e.g. the copy/paste/insert/delete column features, it’s really powerful stuff, speeding up my work a lot!

One thing that I’m longing for though is the ability to hide/collapse a column (i.e. without actually editing the contents of the file, but rather simply hiding the column from the GUI). This can be very handy when you only want to see and work with the contents of some columns in a file, but still want to keep the other columns remaining in the file too, just not currently see them and having them get in the way of your current work.

Is there perhaps already a way to hide columns like this in EmEditor, that I have just failed to see, or could such temporary hiding/collapsing of columns otherwise possibly be implemented in the CSV and Cell Selection modes of EmEditor?

It would practically only have to be the equivalence of setting the width of the column to zero, so hopefully it wouldn’t be super painful to implement either in its most simple design?

The only additional thing needed would perhaps be to implement a way of getting the column back visible again, and for that I could for example suggest adding a small “expand plus sign square” icon (i.e. like this: expand plus sign square icon) at the location in the field headers where the column is located, that can be clicked to immediately “expand” the column back into place again. And when I’m saying this, I just came to think that maybe every column (i.e. normal, expanded/visible ones) can all have a small corresponding “collapse minus sign square” icon on them (i.e. like this: collapse minus sign square icon), to be able to quickly hide/collapse them just by a click of the mouse? That would be REALLY slick and efficient I think!

What do you think?

CSV Editing – DELETE columns https://www.emeditor.com/forums/topic/csv-editing-delete-columns/ Sat, 16 Jan 2016 14:48:39 +0000 https://www.emeditor.com/forums/topic/csv-editing-delete-columns/ Am I blind?
I can’t find the option to delete a column in CSV editing mode. Only Insert or Add column.
Please offer to delete complete columns with and without column headings activated.

Option to hide the separator character in CSV data columns (and header fields) https://www.emeditor.com/forums/topic/option-to-hide-the-separator-character-in-csv-data-columns-and-header-fields/ Sat, 12 Sep 2015 00:48:34 +0000 https://www.emeditor.com/forums/topic/option-to-hide-the-separator-character-in-csv-data-columns-and-header-fields/ The CSV functionality of EmEditor is really great!

One thing that often disturbs my work with it though is that even though the data is placed in to columns by the program, the separator character (e.g. comma, semicolor or something custom) is still displayed inside these columns, while it is really just “structural meta data” to separate data columns from each other. This makes it different from e.g. importing the CSV file into Excel, in which case the separator characters are removed from the data (which makes total sense, since the columns themselves already represent the same meta-information).

It would therefore be REALLY great if an option could be added to the CSV customization properties, named for example “Hide separator character”, which would result in the separator character not being displayed in the actual data (or column headers) at all.

Could this possibly be added? Pretty please with sugar on top? :-)

EmEditor Professional v14.6.0 beta 1 released! https://www.emeditor.com/forums/topic/emeditor-professional-v14-6-0-beta-1-released/ Thu, 04 Sep 2014 00:02:55 +0000 https://www.emeditor.com/forums/topic/emeditor-professional-v14-6-0-beta-1-released/ Today, we are releasing EmEditor Professional v14.6.0 beta 1.

We used to use terminology “Separated Values” or “CSV/DSV/TSV”, but we will start calling all separated values by any delimiters as “CSV”.

Updates from v14.5.4 include:

  • The CSV/Sort toolbar was added. Following commands can be executed against all documents in the current group by clicking the button while pressing the SHIFT key — Normal Mode, all “CSV” commands, all “Convert to” commands, Fixed Width Columns, all “Sort” commands, Delete Duplicate Lines, Heading 0 – 4, Adjust Separator Positions, Automatically Add Separators, and Remove All Separators.
  • The CSV tab was added to the Customize dialog box. You can add or edit CSV formats here. Currently you can define up to 8 CSV formats. As a delimiter, you can specify up to 39 character long string. The “Allow delimiters in double quotes” check box, the “Allow new lines in double quotes” check box and the Heading text box were added.
  • The CSV files to detect list box was added to the File tab of configuration properties.
  • The Extract All button was added to the Find dialog box. Pressing the “Extract All” button will extract lines containing the searched string to a new document.

CSV and "Fill with…" feature https://www.emeditor.com/forums/topic/csv-and-fill-with-feature/ Sat, 29 Oct 2011 12:22:41 +0000 Separated Values/Sort > User Defined” […]]]> I discover the CSV feature and find it great useful.

For example have an list with a few items in one line and an specific delimiter:

One; Albert; 123
Second; Martin; 365
No. Three; Timothee; 987

Now sometimes you want the columns adjusted for better overview?
So use “Edit > Separated Values/Sort > User Defined”

One; Albert; 123
Second; Martin; 365
No. Three; Timothee; 987

If your separator is an coma use CSV, if it is an tab use TSV.

Very fine Yutaka! Thanks, thats very useful to me every few weeks!

But now i have a few questions:

1.) CSV seams not to work with selection, or IOW
i want to skip some lines at the top and only CSV
some lines below. Can that be improved? (or i would
use what i ask now in Q2 below)

2.) How can i make the separating stay for ever?
Means; i want to add spaces after the last char/sign
in each line till the next column to have this alignment stay even after leaving CSV-mode.

Or as an more general approach i would like to suggest an feature “Fill with…”

“Fill with…” should fill each “non-used position” with an given sign.

For example i have tis block:

One
Two
Three
Four
Five
Six
Seven

I want to select that block, call “Fill”, enter an space
or an ‘X’ here for better visibility, and would get:

OneXX
TwoXX
Three
FourX
FiveX
SixXX
Seven

Then i could select an CSV column and use “Fill…”

I see for spaces i can use Column-Selection for this:
– make an one-position selection right after the last sign
– type an any sign (the lines are filled up with spaces)
– delete that typed sign (the spaces are still there)

but this didn’t work in CSV-mode
and this works to fill spaces only, not other signs like dots f.ex.

One;.......Albert;...123
Second;....Martin;...365
No. Three;.Timothee;.987
